The
aqueduct system constructed by the ancient romans was probably
the most extensive in the ancient world. Ancient rome was supplied
by more than ten aqueducts, providing the city with some 143,845
cubic metres (38 million gallons) of water each day. They also
built aqueducts in all parts of their empire, many of which
are still standing.
